Sharulhawazi B Ramly’s trouble with the law began when he got involved in secret society activities at the tender age of 13 years old. In 2004, he was convicted for causing grievous hurt with offensive weapons and sentenced to six years imprisonment.
Sharul’s inspiration to change came about when he was transferred to Prison School in 2005. He took up a course in Creative Design and became an active member of the Multi-Media Club there. He took another major step in turning over a new leaf when he renounced his affiliation to the secret society he belonged to and took an oath to refrain from gang activities. True to his promise, he stayed the course upon release and he is an active Member and Volunteer of ISCOS today.
When he walked into ISCOS office after his release in 2010, he had shared his interest and passion to pursue a diploma course in 3D Animation with Egg Story Digital Art Pte Ltd (ESDA). Through ISCOS’ assistance, he successfully applied for the Yellow Ribbon Fund (YRF) Star Bursary Award to pursue his dream. Today, Sharul is currently attending the 3D Animation course with ESDA. With his keen interest, Sharul has also picked up the technical skills in photography and video production. Concurrently, he has been contributing back to the community by helping to design publicity materials for ISCOS events, carrying out video editing and photo taking.
Today, Sharul has new friends from school, leads a positive lifestyle and is an inspiration to his family and other ISCOS members. He is planning to start a family of his own.
Sharul started his small video production business, Bcreative Pro, offering services such as videographing, photography, graphic designing, and creating animations. To give back to society, Sharul hopes to engage at-risk youths to channel their talents and skills into something meaningful.
