Prior to the implementation of ‘Circuit Breaker’ measures, we visited several beneficiaries on separate occasions to celebrate the children’s birthdays. What’s constant was the sense of excitement and anticipation as they eagerly await our arrival on their special day and the joy of their caregivers in seeing the children happy.
During a particular birthday visit, the grandmother was very grateful and kept holding the caseworker’s hands to thank us for the mini-buffet and birthday cake, graciously sponsored by Neo Garden Catering. Tears welled up in her eyes as she talked about how they have never celebrated a birthday in this manner, as celebrating for one child meant that they would have to celebrate for the other five (a treat they could ill afford for the six children) – indeed, moments like this affirmed our work and continued to keep us going.
