“A family doesn’t need to be perfect; it just need to be UNITED.” ~ Anonymous
In the spirit of this saying, ISCOS piloted its very first session of Project ReUnite, a brand new initiative to help bring about the much-needed reconciliation between inmates and their immediate family members through a special ‘Welcome Home’ programme on their day of release.
On 16 December 2017, we waited with the family of Mr Azman (not his real name) at the prison gate for his release. Emotions were running high as he embraced his wife and two young children, all eager to welcome him back to the family. We brought the family for a good ‘makan’ session at Changi Village, before the group headed to ISCOS office for a brief yet practical session where we helped to offer practical advice to kick start his reintegration journey, and also some words of encouragement for the family to begin this new chapter with hope and love for one another.
As for us, we do hope that this would be the start of many successful ReUnite sessions in the coming year. If you are keen to support or find out more, feel free to contact us at 67437885 or contact fgp@iscos.org.sg
